US - 2022 Starbucks Unioning, Pennington NJ
In December 2021, a Starbucks in Buffalo became the first in the country to unionize. Since the initial victory, workers at several Starbucks across the country, including Chicago, Boston, and Seattle, have filed for union elections.
These photographs were taken at the Starbucks in Hopewell, New Jersey at 800 Denow Road on February 18, 2022.
In April, 2022, this Starbucks became the first store to unionize in New Jersey. Starbucks workers voted unanimously, 15-0, in favor of unionizing and joining Workers United. In New Jersey, 29 state legislators signed a letter to Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz in support of unionization efforts in the state. In the letter, the legislators called on Schultz to sign the Fair Elections Principles. The letter goes on to list the nine principles of fair elections, including not threatening workers with higher or lower wages or benefits "to gain support."
