We were in western Panama documenting the work of the Emergency Care Research Institute, ECRI, and Floating Doctors focused on bringing healthcare services to remote villages in Panama, on islands disconnected from the mainland. As a boots-on-the-ground organization, Floating Doctors has established mobile clinics of trained healthcare professionals and volunteers to provide free acute and preventative medical and dental services to local communities. By going into the communities, Floating Doctors is able to conduct routine well checks on patients, provide preventive care, address acute and chronic illness, and identify health patterns at the individual, family, and community levels. ECRI is an independent nonprofit organization tasked with improving the safety, quality, and cost-effectiveness of care across all healthcare settings worldwide.
