Ukrainian Refugee Crisis, Warsaw, Poland, March 15, 2022 – Musician Lilya Kirilesky arrived from Kyiv 5 days ago with her Moldovian husband, 12-year-old and 2-year-old children. Her Polish host family provided her with a portable amplifier to be able to perform and earn money for her family. Performing at Castle Square in Warsaw, Poland, next to the Royal Castle, the former official residence of Polish monarchs, Lilya performs Giacomo Puccini’s soprano aria O mio babbino caro (Oh my dear papa) from the opera Gianni Schicchi. Lilya said she typically sings for theater, concerts, and weddings, and is also an artist and graphic designer. Lilya’s father and mother, as well as sister, brother-in-law and their child, remain in Kyiv. Lilya said singing in Poland’s 40-degree weather (4 degrees Celsius) was no problem for her voice as she is used to performing in Kiev’s 35-degree (2 degrees Celsius) weather.
